Photo-A-Day October

Welcome to the first ever…. Photo-A-Day challenge from Eating, Living, Running.  The Photo-A-Day challenge will begin Monday morning October 1, and run throughout the month.  For those of you who are new to Photo-A-Day challenges here’s how it works: this challenge is designed to be done on the “Instagram” platform for either iPhone or android users.  At the beginning of each month I will release a list for the month and beside each day of the month there will be a word or words designed to inspire your picture for that day.

Here is the official list for October:

During this challenge when you post a picture we will be using the hashtag: #ELRPHOTOADAYOCT .

Now as this is my first attempt at creating one of these I just ask that you please be patient, and just have fun with those of us doing this challenge as there is no winner or loser just a bunch of awesome people having an awesome time posting some awesome pics each day.

If you have any other questions or suggestions please let me know. In the meantime I’d like to invite you to check out 3 similar Photo-A-Day challenges at the following websites: (What the focus)

Happy picture-taking friends!

The Joy of Simplicity.

What better way to unwind after a long hard 50+ hour work week than with a weekend of pure simplicity?  This is exactly what my weekend was.

This weekend was consisted of really just 4 well 5 activities if you count sleeping.

The first activity was what I will say is most mens dream activity on a weekend: watching sports.  I started the weekend off with watching my beloved Boston Red Sox defeat the Toronto Blue Jays in baseball on Friday night and Saturday afternoon, and watched other baseball game over the first two days.  Along with baseball on Friday and Saturday I spent Sunday afternoon and evening watching NCAA football I DVR’d Saturday night, and Sunday night football.

The second simple activity I enjoyed this weekend was visiting time with my family in particular my Uncle, and Aunt who were visiting Calgary this weekend from Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan.  Last night (Saturday night) Ashley and I went over to Mama ELR and Step Dad ELR’s house where we had a large family dinner of pizzas and beer and visited with my Uncle and Aunt.

The third simple yet gratifying activity I took time to enjoy this weekend was eating.

Some of the food highlights I enjoyed this weekend include: pizza and beer family dinner last night at Mama ELR’s house, my first breakfast in a week that was not in the form of a nutritional shake (I had Cheerios with banana and fat-free milk, and coffee and water) this morning, what has become a weekly tradition for Ashley and I: a trip to Menchie’s in Airdrie for Fro-yo, and probably the first lunchy sandwich I’ve had in about a year today (turkey, cucumber, and lettuce with hot sauce).

Finally the last simple activities of my weekend were just taking time to get some physical fitness in.  Yesterday I went for my first run in 3 weeks.  I ran 6.22 miles/ 10 km, and not only did I run 10 Km but I ran my fastest 10Km time of the year at 1:01:54.

And yes I did finish the run with what has become a staple for me: VEGA sport Vanilla recovery nutritional shake.  Today for some fitness Ashley and I went to our weekly BodyFlow class at our gym before counteracting the benefit of BodyFlow with our trip to Menchie’s.

I hope you all had a great weekend, and that you all took the time to enjoy the simple activities of your weekend life.

Also just a reminder from my last blog post, if you’re interested in taking part in the inaugural “Eating, Living, Running, Photo a Day” challenge for October it’s not too late to submit any ideas for daily inspiration topics as I will be compiling the final list next weekend.  Ideas can be submitted in the comments section on this page or e-mailed to me at: .  If you’re looking for more information on the upcoming Photo-a-Day challenge it can all be found in my last blog post.

Hope you all have a great Monday and start to another week.

Eating Living Running Photo A Day October.

We’ve all seen them and little doubt that we’ve almost all tried at least one.  What am I talking about?  I’m talking about the monthly photo-a-day challenges.  I have myself taken part in 3 of these photo challenges, the ones I have participated in are: Australian blogger, Fat Mum Slim’s (, Fitmixer (, and Lululemon’s (  Now I have enjoyed taking part in all three of these challenges and have great appreciation for all three of these, so much so that I am starting my own monthly photo-a-day challenge starting in October 2012 using the hashtag #ELRphotoadayoct .

What exactly is gonna be #ELRphotoadayoct ? It will be the photo-a-day challenge brought to you by me and this blog “Eating, Living, Running” and it will run on the Instagram platform.  It will be a great way to start, end, or kill sometime during your day by taking and sharing fun photos each day through the months with others on Instagram, and then if you choose on Facebook, and Twitter.  Each month there will be a new list with a picture that is to be taken and shared each day of the month.  Picture inspirations could be: food, a place, an activity, an object or really just about anything.  I will provide everyone with the current list prior to the 2nd last day of each month for the upcoming month.  One of the best things about this challenge is there is no winner and there is no loser so if you miss a day, no harm no foul, just pick up and jump back on board the next day.

Now as this is my first attempt at this please be patient with the topics and if you have constructive and positive feedback please do share it and I will do my best to improve the lists with each month.  Also if you are interested in participating please do and tell your friends/followers about this challenge and lets see just how many people we can inspire or at least make smile or laugh with our photos.  If you are interested in participating in this challenge starting next month and you have any fun ideas for photo-a-day inspirations please let me know and I will do my best to incorporate some of your ideas into the October list, I will be creating the October list the week of Sept 17-23 so please have ideas in by then.

Remember we will be using the hashtag: #ELRphotoadayoct and happy photo-a-day October 2012!

X-Fest, and Labour Day Long Weekend.

Good Tuesday evening all you lovely readers out there.  I hope you all had a wonderful and restful Labour Day long weekend.  My long weekend was both busy and restful at times, but above all it was AMAZING!!

Here are just some of the highlights from my wonderful Labour Day long weekend:

Saturday Ashley and I attended X-Fest “Calgary’s New Rock Festival”.  This festival is put on by Calgary radio station X-92.9 “Calgary’s New Rock Alternative”.  This was the second year this festival has happened in Calgary, and the second year that we have gone (last year being the first).  We just went for the second half of this years show but managed to see the 4 biggest bands there (we were intending to see 5 but sadly Incubus had to pull out due to a severe illness to Brandon Boyd their lead vocalist).  The bands we did however get to see were: FUN., Young The Giant, Silversun Pick-ups, and the band I was most excited for Linkin Park, oh taking a trip down memory lane over the past decade with Linkin Park, haha.

X-Fest also marked a first for me, it was my first time experiencing a Calgary Food Truck or really a food truck of any sorts.  We tried two different food trucks, the first of which was “Fries and Dolls” for gourmet french fries, and the second was “Noodle bus” for beef Pho.  I will admit while I was a bit skeptical about both, both food trucks completely blew my mind with both their selection of items, as well as their quality of food products.

Here are some pictures from our day at X-Fest.

The ever popular “Fries and Dolls” food truck.

Linkin Park closing out X-Fest 2012. One of the best performances I’ve ever seen.

Sunday and Monday:

Sunday was a pretty low-key day minus our coffee maker having an electrical short mid brew (it’s now gone to coffee maker heaven).  We also went to BodyFlow class at the gym.  For those of you who aren’t familiar with “BodyFlow” it’s a part of the Les Mills group fitness classes and incorporates elements of Yoga, Tai-chi, and Pilates.  This is definitely one of my favorite forms of exercise especially in the group fitness area.

And Sunday evening we went to family Sunday dinner at Mama and Step Dad ELR’s house to celebrate my baby sister and her husband, and their adorable baby boy “Landen” moving back to the Calgary area, as well as my Uncles birthday.

Monday was spent primarily running errands and eating yummy food, as well as a quick stop at the gym for “BodyFlow”.

Gotta have the mat if you’re gonna do the Flow! haha

The ELR’s: Mama, Step Dad, Moi (Me), Ashley, and left to right on the bottom: baby sister Kate, my “Phew” Landen, and my brother-in-law Mike.

Monday morning pre “BodyFlow” brunch at home.

Best post “BodyFlow” snack: VEGA Sport Chocolate Coconut bar, and grande Skinny Vanilla Latte from SBUX.

Nothing beats a Labour Day afternoon stop to “The Happy Place” aka: MENCHIE’S for Fro-Yo Yo!

Thank-you for taking the time to read my latest post it really does mean a lot that you did, and I truly hope you had a fantastic Labour Day weekend whatever it brought your way!

Keep Smiling!!
